Haas Formula 1 rookie Oliver Bearman received a 10-place grid penalty for overtaking Carlos Sainz under red flag conditions at Monaco Grand Prix second practice. The session was halted due to Oscar Piastri’s crash, but Bearman overtook Sainz at La Rascasse despite warnings to slow down. Video evidence and dashboard alerts indicated the red flag, emphasizing immediate speed reduction under such situations. Bearman defended his actions, stating abrupt slowing could be riskier, but the FIA disagreed, citing safety concerns at Monaco. The penalty saw Bearman drop 10 grid places for the Race and receive 2 penalty points. Despite the setback, Bearman remained positive for the weekend, noting improvements in car balance and performance in practice sessions.
